DC Crime Summary – February 11th - 17th, 2017
There was a homicide and several violent crimes in the District this week • Kenny Bell, 30, was shot and killed near the Washington Highland Recreation Center. No suspect information is available at this time, and DC Police are actively investigating the incident. • An arrest warrant was issued for Gary O’Neal Bell, a 24-year-old who is wanted for juvenile sex trafficking. The suspect has been allegedly offering an underage girl for sexual encounters, and authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect. • Ronald Perry Berton, 42, was charged with kidnapping and raping a woman near Adams Morgan in 2007. The suspect is already in prison after he was convicted of raping a woman in her Arlington apartment in 2010. • A man was stabbed Tuesday night near the Navy Yard neighborhood. The victim was conscious and breathing when authorities arrived, and DC Police are searching for a male suspect last seen wearing a black jacket. • Cyheme Hall, 21, was arrested by DC Police and charged with the first-degree murder of Deeniquia Dodds, a 22-year-old transgender woman killed on July 4th. The suspect was the fourth person arrested in connection with the case.

WJLA: Man shot to death over the weekend in Southeast D.C., police say “A 30-year-old man was shot and killed over the weekend in Southeast Washington, according to Metropolitan Police. On Sunday, police found Kenny Bell, 30, with multiple gunshot wounds in the 3800 block of 8th Street. Bell died at the scene of the shooting.”
Washington Post: Fourth arrest in July 4 slaying of transgender woman “D.C. police said Tuesday they arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the shooting of a transgender woman on July 4.”
Washington Post: Man charged in 2007 burglary, rape in Northwest Washington “A 42-year-old man serving 10 years in prison for raping a woman in her Arlington, Va. apartment has been charged with kidnapping and raping a woman in Northwest Washington in 2007, according to police and court documents.”
Washington Post: D.C. man wanted for juvenile sex trafficking “Authorities are seeking a Washington man who they believe is involved in juvenile sex trafficking. The child exploitation task force in the FBI’s Washington field office has an arrest warrant for Gary O’Neal Bell, 24. Official allege he has been offering an underage girl for sexual encounters over the past several months. The alleged sex trafficking has happened at locations throughout the D.C. area, officials said.”
Washington Post: Stabbing near Washington Navy Yard “A man was stabbed and wounded Tuesday night near the Navy Yard neighborhood in Southeast Washington. The stabbing occurred about 9 p.m. at 9th and M Streets SE, police said. The victim was conscious and breathing, said Officer Sean Hickman, a police spokesman.”
Washington Post: Suspect who was arrested in multiple-victim shooting outside D.C. liquor store sought revenge, police say “A man charged with shooting four people in D.C. last year during rush hour at a busy intersection had targeted a man he believed had fatally stabbed an acquaintance, according to newly filed court documents.”
Washington Post: Second suspect arrested in shooting that injured four last year “A second suspect has been arrested in a daylight shooting last year at a busy District intersection that left four people wounded and prompted a public outcry. The shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. June 8 at New York Avenue and North Capitol Street NW. It was in front of Big Ben Liquors on a corner that is passed daily by thousands of commuters.”
WUSA9: MISSING: 14-year-old Northeast D.C. boy “D.C. Police need the public’s help finding a 14-year-old boy who was last seen on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Miguel Escobar was last seen in the 1200 block of Holbrook Terrace in Northeast D.C.”
WUSA9: MISSING: 15-year-old from DC “Police need your help locating a missing 15-year-old from D.C. Andre Hick was last seen on Wednesday in the 2800 block of 28th Street in southeast D.C.”
WJLA: Elderly woman rescued from burning home in Northeast D.C. after suffering a stroke ”“You’re thinking in the back of your head, ‘I don’t know if I’m coming out,” said MPD Officer JP Mcardle. Mcardle and Officer William Rapp were done for the day, when they got one last call.”
NBC Washington: U.S. Capitol Plans Security Upgrades After Recent Threats “U.S. Capitol officials are planning a series of security upgrades outside the Capitol Complex, including installation of an underground alarm system, reinforced windows and K-9 units outside building entrances.”
Washington Post: ‘Urgent care on wheels’: Fire departments rescuing patients from costly ER trips “In the 15 minutes after firefighters and a nurse knocked at Thelma Lee’s Maryland townhouse, they checked her blood pressure, told her what foods would keep her blood sugar from skyrocketing and set up an appointment — and a ride — to visit her primary-care physician.”
NBC Washington: Spike in Protests Since Trump Inauguration Straining DC Police “The number of protests in Washington, D.C. since President Donald Trump took office is putting a strain on the Metropolitan Police Department.”
